“Nineteen Eighty-Four” by William Golding
“1984” reveals the Orwell’s grim vision of the future. It’s a future where personal freedom and free will have long fallen victims to a new world order. After a global conflict the remains of mankind form three inter-continental superstates. The Americas together with Australia, Great Britain and parts of Africa now form the state of Oceania. The new political system is called Ingsoc or English Socialism and is led by the idolized figure of the so called Big Brother. The Party keeps the masses under close surveillance through monitors placed in each and every building, hidden cameras and microphones. It uses all means necessary to ensure there is nothing threatening the regime.
Most unfortunately for Winston Smith he works for this very same system of mass-control and manipulation he despises so much. His job is to revise and rewrite passed events and news in accordance to the needs of Party. The more he learns about the real history however, the more he desires to find a way to oppose this power hungry and corrupt political system. But what can a man do in a world, where no matter where you are or what you do Big Brother is always watching you?
