“The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
“The Little Prince” is a very special book. It’s about being a child, about growing up and adulthood magically put altogether. And so it should be red, as at each stage of life it unfolds new and deeper wisdoms. Shockingly transforming from the children’s imaginative book into a mature story about love, happiness and life.
The narrator of the story is a pilot, who crashes in the Sahara desert. There he meets the serious Little Prince. He comes from a place he calls Asteroid 325. He used to live happily there, taking good care of his planet, preventing any baobab trees from growing up and overrunning his home. One day a Rose grew up in his garden and he fell in love with it. Until one day he caught it in a lie, breaking his little heart. Lonely and hurt he decided leave and to explore new planets.
On his journey he meets for the first time the shallow and gray world of the adults. Few of his new acquaintances are a king, a businessman, a geographer and even an alcoholic. All of them equally consumed by their occupations and starved for wealth and possessions, which both amuses and disturbs the Little Prince.
Now when he is on Earth there are more lessons for him learn before he can finally find his way back home.
